{{ :lens:pentax-a_smc_35mm_f2.png?300|}}
==== Summary ====
The SMC Pentax-A 35mm f/2 is a fast, manual-focus wide-angle prime introduced in 1984 and produced until 1989, designed for full-frame K-mount film cameras. It was the final evolution of Pentax’s manual-focus 35mm f/2 lineage, succeeding the K and M versions, and added the all-important “A” setting on the aperture ring—enabling full Program and Shutter-Priority automation on compatible bodies. Optically, it features a 7-element - 7-group design with Super Multi-Coating (SMC) and a 6-blade automatic diaphragm. The lens stops down to f/22, focuses as close as 30cm, and delivers 0.17× magnification. It uses a 49mm filter thread, weighs 205g, and measures 63 × 41.5mm. It lacks internal focusing or weather sealing, but includes a PH-S49 hood and was often sold with a hard case (HA-90B). The build is classic A-series: compact, dense, and all-metal with a rubberized focus ring and engraved distance scale.
