The SMC Pentax 55mm f/2 is a manual-focus standard prime lens introduced in 1976 as part of the original K-series lineup, and produced until 1977. It shares the same 6-element/5-group optical design and physical dimensions as the faster f/1.8 version, but was marketed as a more affordable alternative. It features a 6-blade automatic diaphragm, Super Multi-Coating (SMC) for improved contrast and flare resistance, and a Pentax K bayonet mount—though it lacks an “A” setting on the aperture ring.
