The SMC Pentax 55mm f/2 is a manual-focus standard prime lens introduced in 1976 as part of the original K-series lineup, and produced until 1977. It shares the same 6-element/5-group optical design and physical dimensions as the faster f/1.8 version, but was marketed as a more affordable alternative. It features a 6-blade automatic diaphragm, Super Multi-Coating (SMC) for improved contrast and flare resistance, and a Pentax K bayonet mount—though it lacks an “A” setting on the aperture ring. The lens focuses down to 0.45m, delivers a 0.17× magnification, and uses a 52mm filter thread. It weighs 221g, measures 63 × 39mm, and offers a 43° diagonal field of view on full-frame. Engraved as smc PENTAX 1:2 55mm, it’s fully compatible with manual and aperture-priority modes on Pentax DSLRs.
